Basingstoke Radio

Basingstoke Radio (BR) is a vibrant, volunteer run community radio station in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Based in south central England on the western edge of the North Downs, (BR) Basingstoke Radio formerly (BCR) Basingstoke Community Radio provides local radio, community engagement, and inclusive broadcasting for Basingstoke and the surrounding areas.
Founded in 2019 by David Chatten-Smith, a blind and passionate advocate for accessibility and community involvement, Basingstoke Community Radio was established with support from The National Lottery and operates as a registered charity. and in 2026 rebranded to Basingstoke Radio
Since launching, Basingstoke Community Radio has grown into a vital part of the local community, delivering local radio programming, supporting community events, and offering outside broadcasts using its fully branded outside broadcast vehicle, regularly seen around Basingstoke’s shopping centres and gardens.

BCR exists to serve the diverse community of Basingstoke and the wider Hampshire area by:

A Commitment to Accessibility and Inclusion
Accessibility and inclusion are at the heart of Basingstoke Radio. The station provides a weekly, fully accessible talking news service for print disabled listeners, ensuring that everyone can stay informed about local news and events in Basingstoke.
State of the Art Facilities
BCR is based in the iconic Clock Tower, located directly within one of Basingstoke’s main shopping centres. The station features three professional radio studios, including a dedicated training suite where volunteers can learn broadcasting, production, and presentation skills.
The station also delivers radio training workshops for young adults with learning difficulties, offering opportunities to gain confidence, experience, and transferable skills.
A Volunteer Powered Community Radio Station
The success of BCR is driven by its 34 dedicated volunteers, who come from all walks of life. Together, they create diverse programming including music shows, talk programmes, local news, and current affairs, making BCR a truly community led radio station.
